Our Therapies and Resources

Child Therapy

Child therapy is a type of counseling that helps kids work through various mental and emotional challenges. Therapists use age-appropriate techniques like play therapy, art therapy, and talk therapy. They may work one-on-one with the child or include family members. Goals of therapy can include improving coping skills, self-esteem, and relationships. It's beneficial for kids dealing with issues like anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, or difficulties with big life changes. With the help of a trained therapist, children can learn healthy ways to navigate their emotions and develop resilience.

DBT

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a therapeutic approach developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan. It combines Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with mindfulness techniques. DBT emphasizes learning behavioral skills to manage emotions, tolerate distress, maintain relationships, and improve self-esteem. It's particularly effective for treating borderline personality disorder and chronic suicidal ideation. The goal is to find a balance between acceptance and change to build a more fulfilling life. DBT involves individual therapy sessions, skills training groups, and phone coaching to practice new skills in daily life.

ACT

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a form of psychotherapy that uses acceptance and mindfulness techniques to help individuals live more meaningfully while developing psychological flexibility. Developed by Steven C. Hayes and others, ACT aims to help individuals accept difficult emotions, thoughts, memories, and other private events, especially those that are traumatic or causing distress. The goal is to live in the present, engage in values-based actions that promote meaning and life satisfaction. ACT differs from traditional CBT in its focus on mindfulness, values, and committed action as a pathway to psychological flexibility and living a meaningful life.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy technique for treating traumatic memories. Developed by Francine Shapiro, it involves bilateral stimulation such as eye movements or tapping to simulate REM sleep and promote new neural pathways. This helps the brain reprocess distressing memories, reducing their negative impact. EMDR has shown efficacy in treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and depression.

IFS

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a transformative, non-pathologizing model of psychotherapy developed by Richard Schwartz. It views the mind as a system of sub-personalities, each with its own viewpoint, feelings, memories, and wisdom. IFS focuses on the interplay between these internal "parts" and the "Self," the core of who we are. The goal is to help the Self harmoniously lead the internal system by compassionately understanding and addressing the concerns of all parts. This allows for healing, promotes resilience, and fosters well-being. IFS is used for a wide range of mental health issues and can be integrated with other therapeutic approaches.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness therapy is a powerful approach that cultivates present-moment awareness. By focusing on the here and now, individuals can let go of worries about the past or future. This non-judgmental acceptance of the present moment reduces stress and anxiety. Mindfulness practices, such as meditation and deep breathing, increase self-awareness and emotional regulation. It's effective for managing chronic pain, improving sleep, and enhancing overall well-being. Mindfulness therapy is often combined with cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for even greater benefits. Regular practice leads to long-term positive changes in mental health and quality of life.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a powerful psychotherapy approach focusing on how thought patterns influence behavior and emotions. Developed by Aaron Beck, it aims to identify and change negative, distorted, or unhelpful ways of thinking (cognitive distortions), and teach more constructive behaviors. Unlike traditional psychoanalysis, CBT is problem-focused, action-oriented and present-centered. It's widely used for treating anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, and other mental health issues. Through techniques like cognitive restructuring and exposure therapy, individuals can learn to challenge harmful beliefs, improve coping skills, and enhance overall well-being.

SFT

Solutions Focused Therapy (SFT) is a goal-oriented, evidence-based therapeutic approach. Developed by Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg, SFT emphasizes solutions rather than problems. It's a brief therapy form focusing on the present and future, helping clients identify and build on strengths and resources to achieve desired outcomes. Core practices include goal setting, identifying exceptions (times when the problem could have happened but didn't), and amplifying solutions. SFT is effective in addressing various mental health issues in individuals, couples, and families.

Trauma-Informed Care

Trauma-informed care is a compassionate approach to healthcare that acknowledges the impact of past traumas on an individual's life. It recognizes that people often have experienced multiple traumas that can affect their physical and mental health. This approach encourages providers to understand the role of trauma in shaping behaviors and health outcomes. It promotes safety, trust, and empowerment for those receiving care. Trauma-informed care aims to avoid re-traumatization and supports resilience through collaboration between providers and individuals. It is essential in various settings, including mental health, substance abuse treatment, and primary care. By integrating trauma awareness into practice, providers can improve health outcomes and promote healing.

Life Coaching

Life coaching empowers individuals to reach their full potential. Through guided self-reflection and goal-setting, coaches help clients overcome obstacles and achieve personal and professional success. With a non-judgmental and supportive approach, life coaches foster clarity, confidence, and resilience. They equip people with the tools to navigate life's challenges, make meaningful decisions, and cultivate a fulfilling and balanced lifestyle. By unlocking inner strength and promoting positive change, life coaching transforms lives.

LifeGroups

LifeGroups are small psycho-educational groups, led by a trained therapist. These LifeGroups offer a supportive environment for individuals to learn new skills and strategies. These groups typically focus on a specific issue, such as anxiety, depression, or trauma. Members benefit from the therapist's expertise and peer support. Group members share experiences, providing a sense of community and validation. Skills learned in the group can be practiced outside the sessions, promoting personal growth and wellbeing.

Grief and Loss Counseling

Grief and loss counseling provides a supportive environment for individuals to process their emotions following a significant loss, such as the death of a loved one. Trained therapists help clients understand the grieving process, which can involve shock, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and ultimately, acceptance. Counseling techniques may include cognitive-behavioral strategies to address distressing thoughts, and expressive therapies like art or writing to express complex emotions. The goal is to help individuals navigate their grief in a healthy way, find meaning, and eventually, integrate the loss into their life story, moving forward with renewed purpose and resilience.

CISM

Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) debriefing is a structured process for helping individuals process traumatic events. It's a key component of comprehensive CISM programs. Debriefing promotes emotional stabilization, normalization of reactions, and facilitates recovery. It's not psychotherapy, but rather a supportive, educational discussion. Debriefing should occur 1-10 days post-incident, ideally when the individual is physically and emotionally ready. The goal is to mitigate the risk of long-term psychological impact. A trained facilitator guides the discussion through specific phases, ensuring a safe, non-judgmental environment.

Enneagram Assessment

The Enneagram is a powerful personality typing system that offers deep self-awareness and personal growth insights. It identifies nine core motivations and fears that drive our thoughts, feelings, and actions. Understanding your Enneagram type can help you recognize unhealthy patterns, improve relationships, and find alignment with your authentic self. It promotes empathy and compassion by revealing the motivations behind others' behaviors. Organizations use the Enneagram to enhance teamwork, leadership, and communication. Overall, the Enneagram is a valuable tool for both personal development and professional success.

Christian Counseling

Christian counseling combines psychological principles with biblical teachings to promote mental health. It addresses issues like anxiety, depression, and relationship problems within a faith-based framework. Christian counselors believe in the power of prayer, scripture, and a personal relationship with God to facilitate healing. They aim to help clients replace unhealthy thought patterns with ones grounded in Christian values. Ultimately, Christian counseling seeks to restore individuals to a place of emotional well-being that reflects their identity in Christ.
